National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week, May 19 to 25, highlights ways to prevent recreational water illnesses. According to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local health departments investigated more outbreaks in 2007 than ever before. This upsurge is driven by Cryptosporidium, a chlorine resistant parasite, and is primarily associated with pools, water parks and other treated swimming areas.

Holds First Fundraiser at Firstenburg


Vancouver, WA -- The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society is holding it’s first ever Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction to raise awareness and funds supporting the humane treatment of surrendered cats and dogs at the WCGHS facility.  The event will be held on May 31, 2008 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Firstenburg Center, 700 NE 136th Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98684.

Klineline Bridge replacement project to start in April

Work to demolish then replace the Klineline Bridge on Highway 99 over Salmon Creek could begin as early as mid April, Clark County Commissioners learned today as they formally approved the prime contractor bid for the project.
